“Greener Choices Start with Insight”
We couldn’t agree more and that’s why we love Greenzer.com! Greenzer is a sustainable shopping and product comparison engine that features thousands of pre-screened products from carefully chosen merchants. The site is a little sparse but building the database takes time because unlike other shopping engines Greenzer evaluates the products they feature to make sure they meet a minimum Green standard. Of the products that make it onto the site, they then search for confirming data sources for the products green specs so they can assign it a Greenzer Score. Not every product has a Greenzer score yet, but again, this takes time because of the care they are taking to ensure the quality of the information.

Rather than sending a paper card that will travels by truck and by plane to ultimately end up in a drawer until some distant spring cleaning, go paperless! A fun way to do this is with VIDiGREET’s video greeting cards. VIDiGREET has greeting you can send for free, or you can sign up for a subscription, $15 a year, and send unlimited VIDiGREET greetings. They are cheap (or free), eco-friendly, and will make mom laugh!
Addition (5/5/08):
VIDiGREET’s MILLION MOMS FOR MOTHER EARTH PROMO:
When one million of you sign up, not only will you be able to send unlimited VIDiGREETs to your Mom (or heck, even our Moms) we’ll pass the net proceeds directly to the Energy Action Coalition and their project ClimateChallenge.org. Our goal is one million. But regardless of the final number, we will be donating whatever the total net dollar amount is to this environmental advocacy organization. Click here to view full details. So do it right now. Or we’ll have to put you on time out.
Thanks for the heads up Jeff!

We know not everything you buy is going to be Green but here’s a great site that allows you to give back with every purchase, without spending anymore than you normally would have. The site is NonProfitShoppingMall.com (NPSM). NPSM has partnered with large online retailers like Dell, Staples, Amazon, GAIAM, Macy’s… who have agreed to pay a sales commission to any sales that are made through NPSM. NPSM then give that commission to a charity that you choose from their list of approved non-profits like the Sierra Club or the Rainforest Alliance. Each retailer determines their contribution level which is published on the site. Just flipping through I saw contributions as low as 0.5% for The Apple Store, and as high as 7.5% for the Ecoist. With Mother’s Day coming up if you didn’t find anything in our Green Gift Guide and you are going to resort to buying mom a gas powered chain saw at Home Depot to level the tree’s in the back yard amidst the noise and gas fumes :o( at least you can make the purchase through NPSM and have a portion of your purchase go to the Sierra Club.

Before I found this site I had an elaborate Task/Info Management system that involved forests worth of yellow sticky notes all over my desk and computer monitor. ShifD is a simple, convenient and FREE way to go paperless. ShifD keeps all your bits of info in one place. It breaks things down to three categories: Notes, Places & Links, but also allows you to apply Tags to any of these for complete control of how your info is stored. You can post notes to your account via the website, a desktop application or your mobile phone so your notes go where you go. This really is a great productivity tool that can really help you go paperless.
