Remarkable Repairs
Posted on August 28, 2009 by Becky Striepe .
Nothing’s greener than getting your mend on. Of course it’s easy to do the conventional fix, like sewing up a torn seam. Sometimes, though, it’s fun to take a peek at some more creative solutions.
Platform 21 recently held a Remarkable Repairs Contest, and they’re picking their favorite on August 30th. Here are a few of [...]
DIY: Recycling Your Candles
Posted on August 20, 2009 by Matt Embrey .
What do you do with those old candles that have burnt down to almost nothing, or who lost their wicks? You could toss them or you could turn them into new home made candles like Cara Hall. Cara demonstrates on her blog the Failed Feminist how to recycle your old candles into new candles like [...]
DIY Energy Saving Phone Charging Dock
Posted on July 15, 2009 by Matt Embrey .
Here’s a great DIY to make your own power saving charging dock. As most of you now know, when you plug your cell phone, or mp3 player (most things that have an AC adapter box built into the charger), that charger continues to draw electricity even when your device isn’t attached or charging. This wastes [...]

Spring is here! I want to bring my mother-in-law a pretty bouquet when we visit for Easter, but cut flowers make me so sad! They come from so far away and are usually grown with all sorts of nasty pesticides. Rather than head to the flower shop, I decided to head to my gigantic scrap bin and make her a pretty bouquet that would last longer than a live one and was more personal to boot!
DIY: Give an Old Trunk a New Life
Posted on March 21, 2009 by Becky Striepe .
When there’s something in the house that starts to look a little ragged, it’s hard to resist the call of IKEA. It’s so easy to hit up that Swedish wonderland and replace an aging piece on the cheap. Rather than send that beat up old trunk to the landfill, it’s pretty easy and fun to make your own, handmade cover!
Reclaimed T-Shirt Rug
Posted on April 1, 2008 by Matt Embrey .
What to do with all those t-shirts that get printed and never worn? The Cotton Spaghetti Rug from Gaiam is a good solution. Made from recycled unused T-shirt remnants this is a much better place for these victims of poor proof-reading than the landfill. It’s a bit pricey at $360 so if you’re feeling thrifty and crafty [...]
