Samantha Tackeff

Samantha spends a lot of time in town coffee shops reading about all things green. In between her Internet and caffeine binges, she likes converting these ideas into action, be it by working at her organic farmshare, shopping locally, or serving on her town’s Energy Committee. She believes strongly that a sustainable lifestyle should be fun, easy, and affordable for everyone. Living green shouldn’t be about sacrifice, but rather about avoiding unchecked exploitation of our resources. Samantha graduated college with a double major in Environmental Studies and Architecture. Her passions include good food, good design, and the Boston Red Sox. Her favorite shade of green is dark moss.

I was out playing basketball yesterday when I happened to notice a child, no more than two years old riding a bicycle. I sat there for a few minutes shocked. Finally, my curiosity peaked and I ran over to ask the mother what was going on.
She informed me that Zach, not yet two, was riding [...]

Hanukkah, an Eco-Holiday

Posted on December 21, 2008 by Samantha Tackeff .

Tonight marks the first night of Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of Lights. While both cultural consumerism and family tradition has led me to closely associate the holiday with eight days of gifts and wild amounts of potato pancakes (latkes) and deep fried foods like Sufganiot (Jelly Donuts, see above), the story of Hanukkah itself is [...]
