Don’t Let Green Fatigue Get You Down
Posted on September 3, 2009 by Becky Striepe .
One of my Twitter pals, @elaan, recently tweeted, “I am producing less garbage and doing more recycling than I ever have, but I still have a long way to go. There’s more I can be doing!”
I think we all get overwhelmed sometimes. Technically, she’s right: we could all be doing more. Maybe [...]
Slow Food USA’s Time for Lunch Campaign
Posted on August 31, 2009 by Becky Striepe .
When I was in elementary school, Wednesdays were beefaroni day. My pops and I called it “barfaroni,” and we made sure to pack a lunch for me on Wedesdays. Not every kid was lucky enough to have a family like mine or can afford to pack a lunch even once a week. [...]
Remarkable Repairs

Nothing’s greener than getting your mend on. Of course it’s easy to do the conventional fix, like sewing up a torn seam. Sometimes, though, it’s fun to take a peek at some more creative solutions.
Platform 21 recently held a Remarkable Repairs Contest, and they’re picking their favorite on August 30th. Here are a few of [...]
Etsy Finds: Back to School
Posted on August 25, 2009 by Becky Striepe .
Summer’s winding down, and it’s time to sharpen those pencils! While Americans have spent less on school supplies this year, the average family still spends about $550. What the Heck is No ‘Poo Anyway?
Posted on August 13, 2009 by Becky Striepe .
Whenever I mention to someone that I’m doing the no ‘poo thing, it gets quite the reaction! Despite its confusing name, no ‘poo has nothing to do with fecal matter. Though I have to admit I sort of enjoy that it sounds like maybe it does.
So what is this no ‘poo business about? [...]
Green Your Routine: The Deodorant Guide
Posted on July 3, 2009 by Becky Striepe .
We’re used to smelly hippie jokes around these parts, but living a healthy, eco-friendly lifestyle doesn’t have to mean letting hygiene suffer. It does, however, mean making some informed decisions.
A Journal of Applied Toxicology study recently linked the aluminum in traditional antiperspirants to breast lumps, and that’s not all that stinks in conventional deodorants. [...]
Crafting Cradle to Cradle: Upcycled Vocabulary
Posted on June 29, 2009 by Becky Striepe .
I know, I’m about seven years late to the party here, but I’m just now reading Cradle to Cradle. As I made my way through the book, a terrible realization slowly dawned on me, and this one line from The Princess Bride has been running through my head since then:
I am the Vizzini in [...]
Etsy Finds to Help You Waste Less in the Kitchen
Posted on June 22, 2009 by Becky Striepe .
So we’ve made the switch to recycled toilet paper in the name of saving virgin forests, but it turns out that the bathroom isn’t the only room in the house with the potential for producing lots of waste. Between paper towels and napkins and those sandwich baggies, your poor trash bin can fill up [...]
Etsy Finds: Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is less than a month away! That means I’ve been scouring Etsy for some eco-friendly gifts for my momma.
Green Craft Supplies: Felt Made from Recycled Soda Bottles
Posted on April 18, 2009 by Becky Striepe .
There’s something a little magical about crafting with felt. It’s versatile, comes in lots of fun colors, and sort of reminds me of the crafts I did as a little kid. The problem with synthetic crafting felt is that it’s made from…well it’s made from plastic. There. I feel better now that I’ve gotten that off of my chest.
