Matt Embrey

Matt is always striving to make a difference. He's been involved in public service since he was a teen, and his love for the outdoors goes even further back, but he hasn't always been Green. "...not too long ago I was hanging out with my 5 year old niece and I asked her what she wanted to do for the day. She said she wanted to go down to the park and pick up litter because it was making mother nature sad. I always talk to her about the importance of being kind to mother nature but I realized that besides not littering, I did very little, partly because I felt overwhelmed by weight of 'Going Green'. The simplicity in her approach made me realize that 'Going Green' starts with action, and inspired me to start my journey to a more sustainable life."

Sunday (not so) Funnies…

Normally I find George Carlin hilarious and I have an affinity for poking fun at things that are important to me, but I was really disappointed when I watched his bit on “Saving the Planet,” (the video is at the end of the post).  I understand it’s just a comedy routine, and [...]

GreenSmart Neogreene: Neoprene Re-invented

Neoprene is everywhere these days from wetsuits to laptop sleeves. The stretchy, squishy rubber based material is useful and versatile, unfortunately it’s not very earth-friendly. Neoprene (or polychloroprene) is a petroleum based rubber that is treated and bound together with a nasty mix of chemicals & VOCs including Formaldehyde, lead, chlorine and toluene.

One of the most important lessons I have leared since I started blogging about the environment is that community is at the core of progress and sustainability.  Action starts with the individual, and a bunch of small actions by one person can make a big impact.  Now when you combine the actions of many passionate [...]

Don’t Read This, Go Outside!

We are living more and more digital lives, and as we pile more onto our plates, a lot of us find ourselves wasting away in front of the enticing glow of the computer monitor.  I am an outdoor enthusiast, but find myself getting out less and less, and Idefinitely feel the disconnect from nature [...]

Monsanto should patent their modification of the word “Fact”

While I was working on my review of the movie Food, Inc. I happened upon Monsanto’s “Fact Site” about the movie and thought I’d address some of their “Facts.”  I highly recommend you watch the movie and judge for yourself, but until then here is Monsanto’s position [...]

Cows in Vermont are on a new diet that is aimed at making people and the planet more healthy.

In a move to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions Stonyfield Farms has launched the Greener Cow pilot program in conjunction with 15 organic farms that supply the milk for Stonyfield’s yogurts.  The program started by putting 74 cows on [...]
