Matt Embrey

Matt is always striving to make a difference. He's been involved in public service since he was a teen, and his love for the outdoors goes even further back, but he hasn't always been Green. "...not too long ago I was hanging out with my 5 year old niece and I asked her what she wanted to do for the day. She said she wanted to go down to the park and pick up litter because it was making mother nature sad. I always talk to her about the importance of being kind to mother nature but I realized that besides not littering, I did very little, partly because I felt overwhelmed by weight of 'Going Green'. The simplicity in her approach made me realize that 'Going Green' starts with action, and inspired me to start my journey to a more sustainable life."

If you’re on Twitter you are probably familiar with #ecomonday (if you’re not, check out the Twittervore’s Dilemma) a Monday tradition of recomending good eco-friendly tweeps.  The problem is that the list of good green tweeps is long and people just blast out tons and tons of suggestions which is hard to keep up with. Sunday Funnies: Bizarre Respect Nature Video

Sunday Funnies: Bizarre Respect Nature Video

Posted on July 26, 2009 by Matt Embrey .

This video is the most bizarre way to say “respect nature” and “live and let live.”
Personally I hate bugs, they creep me out.  I realize this isn’t rational and I respect nature so I generally suck it up and live with them.  When it comes to particularly offensive looking spiders and wasps (I hate those [...]

Happy Tequila Day: 4Copas Organic Tequila

In honor of National Tequila Day we are featuring 4Copas Organic Tequila.  I’ve had the pleasure of trying their Anejo and their Blanco and both were top notch.  What I like so much about 4Copas, besides being USDA certified organic and tasting good, they have put a lot care into their process.
To start, 4Copas uses [...]

When you’re going green you can’t be afraid to talk a little trash or to talk sh!t, so lets get to it.  The conventional toilet is not very environmentally friendly.  New low flow toilets, dual flush toilets and grey water systems can help reduce water waste but there’s another kind of waste happening when you [...]

Confounded by vegetable digging cats and toiling in the vegetable patch, Instructables member pippa5 came up with this cool DIY vertical garden  solution.  In case you don’t recognize it, she used an old closet shoe organizer.  Meant to keep your shoes off the floor and save you some space, this new use saves some space [...]

Piet Hein Eek: Reclaimed Wood Furniture

There are many roots to our addiction to consumption, but in this post I am going to discuss just one of them… aesthetics.  It’s funny that dispite the inherent aesthetic beauty of nature and the environemnt, our desire to make our own environments aesthetically pleasing can wreak havoc on the former.   Now obviously there [...]

DIY Energy Saving Phone Charging Dock

DIY Energy Saving Phone Charging Dock

Posted on July 15, 2009 by Matt Embrey .

Here’s a great DIY to make your own power saving charging dock.  As most of you now know, when you plug your cell phone, or mp3 player (most things that have an AC adapter box built into the charger), that charger continues to draw electricity even when your device isn’t attached or charging.  This wastes [...]
