Remarkable Repairs

Nothing’s greener than getting your mend on. Of course it’s easy to do the conventional fix, like sewing up a torn seam. Sometimes, though, it’s fun to take a peek at some more creative solutions.

Platform 21 recently held a Remarkable Repairs Contest, and they’re picking their favorite on August 30th. Here are a few of our favorite fixes!

Calypso Schuijt shrunk an otherwise perfectly good sweater. Rather than add fabric or toss it, she snipped tiny slits into the whole garment so it could stretch to a wearable size again:

When she needed a new pair of shoes, Lise Grosen got crafty! She picked up a pair of second-hand shoes and used the bones as a base for a new pair of pumps. Your standard leather or vinyl wouldn’t be quite so remarkable, but Lise chose hex nuts as her medium for the project:

Instead of replacing a broken hammer, Liaf Lijbers replaced the missing handle with a piece of found wood. I have to admit that the tag on this one really warms my heart:
