DIY: Recycling Your Candles

candleWhat do you do with those old candles that have burnt down to almost nothing, or who lost their wicks?  You could toss them or you could turn them into new home made candles like Cara Hall.  Cara demonstrates on her blog the Failed Feminist how to recycle your old candles into new candles like the one above.  The best part is you can completely customize them adding your own scents, you can mix and layer colors and you can put them into any object to fit your style.

Cara points out that making candles is easy, but making a perfect candle is harder.  You can experiment with different tools and different ways but Cara ended up spending about $100 on the tools to make her recycled candles.

    Here is a nice tip for recycling old candles; You can use an ‘everlasting garden candle’. It is a metal cylinder filled with paraffin and an everlasting wick. You can put it in a bowl with no holes in it :-) and add old candle stumps. Works great!     Interesting read, but I wonder, where can I get new wicks like the one on the picture? I can always find some sort of thread and use as a wick, but then I wouldn`t have the metal thing in the end of it.

    Hey, I used to do that when I was a kid. Only we didnt heat the wax in a pot; we lit the leftover candles and created new ones, one drop at the time. Took forever, but it was fun.
