I’ve heard of container gardens, but this is a novel use of that idea. I love the notion of reusing old gutters at all, but for this application it’s even better.

Another good idea for portability would be to connect one side of two folding sawhorses with 2x4s and attach the gutters to the 2x4s. You could fold the sawhorses to move the “garden” to different locations as lighting conditions change, so long as the length between them was about 4′ or less; you could even put them on wheels to move them around a deck or patio. Would make a good mobile herb garden or small-area bed for lettuce, radishes, scallions.

Have you tried something else in Alaska? I am living iin Salluit, Northern Quebec… So, if you tried something that could interest me in the very cold climate… I would like to get fresk things, but I have to grow them inside. Any suggestions?
