An unsuspecting stack of eco-fi does not know it's about to be cut up and turned into felt cupcakes.
There's something a little magical about crafting with felt. It's versatile, comes in lots of fun colors, and sort of reminds me of the crafts I did as a little kid. The problem with synthetic crafting felt is that it's made from...well it's made from plastic. There. I feel better now that I've gotten that off of my chest.
Luckily, the fine folks at Kunin have us felt addicts covered with their eco-fi (formerly known as ecospun) felt! They used to have recycled and conventional lines of felt, but now all of their offerings are made from 100% recycled plastic soda bottles!
The Kunin felt feels just like any other crafting felt that you'd find at the regular ol' craft store. It comes in dozens of colors from earthy olive green to the brightest orange or teal. They even have a version that's glittery! That's right: there is glitter embedded in the felt. Once you're done swooning, I'll tell you where you can find it!
None of the craft stores around here seem to carry the stuff, but you can get eco-fi online easily enough!
I've ordered eco-fi from a couple of online suppliers, and everything has shown up quickly and in great shape. Joggles has a good variety of the 9" x 12" sheets, and their prices are great: four sheets for just over a dollar. If you're looking for bigger pieces, Felt-o-Rama has an insane selection of colors!
Felt is fun for all sorts of projects, like making cat toys or play food for your kiddos (or yourself)! It doesn't fray, so you can leave the edges unfinished, and it's sturdy enough to stand up to a decent amount of abuse.
