Zero Emissions Dirt Bike - The Zero X

The Zero X is an all dirt bike sans emissions and noise.  With a top speed of 60 mph and the ability to go 0-30 in under 2 seconds, this is no wimpy bike.  It is driven by  a permanent magnet motor that is powered by a special high powered Lithium Ion battery.  The battery along with it’s power grid ensure up to 2 hours of riding without any performance lag.  Once it’s spent it only takes 2 hours to recharge plugged into a standard home outlet.  These batteries contain no cobalt, nickel, lead or mercury, and are 100% recyclable and rated landfill safe, which is nice.

I haven’t had the pleasure of riding one of these yet but I spoke with someone who has and he couldn’t believe how quiet it was.  He said that the only noise he could here when he was tearing down the street was a little chain rattle.  What a great way to get way, way out in the wilderness fast, without fogging up the trail and deafening every living thing within a mile!

The Zero X can also be used for a green commute when its too far to ride a human powered bike.  Just throw the street tires on and go.  No motorcycle license?  NBD, the Zero X has a Speed Controller so with the flip of a switch you can limit the top speed to a street legal scooter speed of 30mph.  When it’s time to send your eyeballs into the back of your head, flip the switch back and go.

This is one lean, mean, greenupgrade, just be careful you don’t turn yourself into a compost heap.  For more info on the Zero X and to buy visit ZeroMotorcycles.com

Wow. O-30 in only 2 seconds, top speed of 60. A CR80 kids dirtbike will beat that, let alone a full fledged 125 or 250cc dirtbike. I guess it’d make a nice toy… That, and if I’m riding a dirtbike, it’s for much longer than 2 hours…

Yeah, this is a nice try but that kind of performance isn’t likely to draw any existing riders or anyone that checks out specs. Definitely not for sand either. Maybe someday, probably not using batteries.

Has anyone learned: energy conversion is inefficient, hence transferring from coal/oil/nuclear/etc to electricity then to kinetic, you lose about 10% each time due to losses in the conversion system. ELECTRIC IS NOT GREEN if you simply plug it into your local coal powered grid which is belching out pollution. It may be more efficient to get a real dirt bike and convert fossil fuel directly to kinetic energy even given the local pollution, because of the fewer conversions of energy.

    Rant over! Thanks.

I am sick of hearing nay sayers saying that “ELECTRIC IS NOT GREEN:!!!!!!!!!! No it is not perfect, and it does indirectly burn fossil fuels but the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere due to plugging in an electric vehicle is FAR LESS than the amount released by an internal combustion gas burning vehicle.

You commentors need to check your knee-jerk reactions, and fill your heads with some facts.

Brian, you are straight up wrong, these are roughly equal up to a 250. To state otherwise shows your lack of knowledge. Why don’t you check the accelerations test performed by Mean Green Machines on the Discovery Channel (youtube). Video don’t like.

Joe, This bike has head-snapping performance. Just youtube some videos or get yourself a test-ride.

Bonzo, you are wrong on so many levels. Zero has numerous customers charging their bikes on off-grid solar installations. Even power straight from the power plant is rougly 97% cleaner than what any current dirtbike provides. Please google well-to-wheels efficiency to learn more about why plug-in’s are MUCH better than any gas or hybrid vehicle.

Jayextoo, this is a 3rd generation lithium-ion battery pack. Each cell is internally fused, temperature and voltage monitored. Probably safer than a gas tank.

Above and beyod all this, these things are fun beyond belief. They open up all kinds of new riding areas and require virtually no maintainance. Imagine no oil/air filter changes. No valve jobs, carb cleanings, etc… Ever!

I think maybe the bashers have a hidden agenda? Possibly lobbyists for the oil industry. ; )

How about paying 1/20th the price to travel to and from work?

Sounds like a nice quiet way to save a bunch of money and have fun at the same time.

I say that anything that pollutes less is a good thing. Besides that we really can not compare the newer electric to the older gas because look at how many years the gas has been around and worked on. Give some time to the electric people and we can only exspect to see better. I hope they keep right on working on new ways to save on the pollution. Also at the price of gas nowdays its great to see anything come out that could save some of us some money and still get out there and enjoy the ride.

Add a street legal kit and blap! you’ve got huge fun getting to werk. Really people, big big compared to the bus. This is about 2 years ahead of its time, very solid concept and it solves a practical problem with electric vehicles; it’s fun. ~ Per Ardua Ad Astra

Say hello to one significant facet of the future.
Zero stink and nil *braaaaat!* will get you without any doubt much further in modern ecosystems.
When I started to look into ebikes, I had a vision (for two days), until I subled across the zero x. Darn.
I recovered, will still build my ebike, and it will hopefully bridge the gap.
&.5k bucks? Nothing to what some DH guys use to build their bikes.
Hehe. Imagine carrying a permanent downhill with you.
    Cheers to the enthusiasts!

Just started looking in to this electric bike and it lloks to ba an awsome bike! No noise, imagine going out on a trail with this one, all the animals you will see that doesn’t run away several minutes before you get there! And all the hassle with filling up the tank, I live 30km from a gas station and this you can just go in and have lunch while charging… I WANT ONE!!!

I probably would never go to an ebike for the same reason i stayed with nitro rc cars vs electric ones. IT MAKES NOISE!

Also its half the fun to work on your bike and then go play with it.

When those Li-Ion or Li-Po batteries die, that will cost more than a 4 stroke top end… a 3000mAh lipo battery costs around $100 which is a tiny battery put into an rc car about 1/3 the size of the palm of your hand. Think about how big the battery will have to be on that bike to last you 2 hours and still provide enough amps to carry you around.

Also aftermarket… even if there is one, you will have to be pretty well off to buy a high performance electric motor of that size or any parts for it.

OK ALL OF YOU TREE HUGERS!! WTF ARE U THINKING?? I KNOW I BOUT A ATV FOR A SPECIFIC REASON. THE NOISE IT GIVES OFF WHEN U GIVE IT MORE GAS? THE SOUND OF THE MOTOR WHEN U TURN IT ON. COME ON?!?! THIS SHIT MAKES NO NOISE AND IT ONLY GIVES U 2HRS.. THATS SHITTY!. U GET A LOT MORE WITH ONE TANK OF GAS ON A DIRTBIKE OR QUAD AND IT GIVES HARDLY ANY EMISSION! HOW ABOUT YA STOP DRIVING UR BIG ASS FUCKEN GAS HOGS SUV’S THEN WE CAN STOP KILLING THE OZONE LAYER IF THATS WHY UR LOOKING IN TO THIS BIKE, GIVE ME A BREAK. KIBIS IS RIGHT TRYING TO BUY THINGS FOR THIS BIKE. WOW. UR LUCKYER TO BANG A PORN STAR THEN TO BUY AFTER MARKETS OR TRY TO REPAIR SHIT FOR IT.

Okay, so being a girl who rides dirt bikes, let me just say I am a little frustrated. First off, I absolutely love the sound of a two-stroke bouncing off the trees, and the sound helps. When you’re racing at a local track or at an enduro/harescramble you can hear when someone comes up behind you to pass, and that makes it easy to get out of the way. If you can’t hear the bike behind you someone is going to get upset because they have to yell to get you to move out of the way, thus creating more time it takes to get around someone. Also, if you’re riding an enduro/harescramble, you are definitely riding more than 2 hours, so what happens after that? There aren’t home electrical outlets in the middle of the woods?
I understand the point is to try and make our environment cleaner, but the marketers should only present these bikes to people who want to ride to work and such. They are not a bike to race by any means.
