The Salm brothers, Isaac and Jaime, of Mio Design have become strange bedfellows with none other than corporate giant Target. Mio emphasises "environmentally and socially progressive design" and hope to promote their ideas and accomplishments through Target.
Starting in 2001 and based out of Philly, MIO operates within this framework:
All of our products use materials that can be easily recycled with existing infrastructures, fit into closed loop manufacturing systems available today or fit seamlessly with natural ecosystems.
Target will be selling an array of items including "watering can, trowel, cultivator, weeder, mini herb garden, solar lights, hammock and composter ranging from $6.99 for the trowel to $99.99 for the composter."
The Salm brothers have laid out how their methods are sustainably minded:
Materials, processes and manufacturers are carefully matched for optimal efficiency and environmental benefits. We evaluate factors such as product durability, embodied energy, affordability and ease of recycling to develop our designs.
Our products are designed for ease of disassembly, shipping, recycling, re-using and composting.
We only work with companies that adhere to socially responsible business practices.
We find new uses for technologies and adapt industries to fit sustainable market opportunities.
We make customers participants in the lifecycle of designs through information and technology

Doug is in perpetual motion and a self-proclaimed adventure junkie, that has had a longtime love affair with the great outdoors.
“I love being a part of the active world. The stuff that blows my hair back is adventure (all shapes and sizes), photography, mountaineering, Muay Thai, and seeing natural beauty in all its forms. The living earth is the framework on which I build my life and free time. My ideal trip would be BASE jumping at Sotano de Las Golandrinas in Mexico (closest I could come to skydiving through the jungle!). I work towards keeping it real, green, and healthy. ”
Doug is the co-founder of LiveOAK, although he says he didn’t know what a blog was until a couple months after he started.
