Environmental awareness is finally “popular”.  What better way to spread the word than by plastering our kids with our messages?  Everyone checks out cute kids…why not make their shirt something worth reading rather than another ad for Dora the Explorer or Disney?  Many of the shirts available for sale have part of the proceeds go to various projects such as reforestation, environmental education for children, or expansion of recycling programs.  Green is the new black, or pink as my daughter’s shirt reads.

There’s a huge range of environmentally friendly and sustainably produced kids clothes out there.  It seems that the selection grows bigger every day.  This shirt reads Keep My Earth Clean and is made of organic cotton which is sustainably harvested.  Some clothes go even further using soy based pigments to colour the material and running carbon neutral facilities.

An environmentally friendly shirt can be just as fun for the kids to wear as something that promotes consumerism and over consumption.  Bright colours, comfortable fabrics, tagless backs and sparkles make this shirt one of my daughter’s favourites without a Snow White, Tinkerbell, or Dora in sight.  It reads “A Good Planet is Hard to Find”.  Although you’ll notice that she’s still wearing her sequined princess shoes even in the snow.  I guess we’ll have many battles ahead of us over clothes.
