Above+Below London footwear is a creative line of repurposed and recycled shoes made from retro textiles from reclaimed seats on London’s Underground and buses, with an additional ‘green’ pledge: The company pledges to donate a tree for each pair sold, to be planted by Trees for Cities. The shoes are made from recycled tire rubber, restored Tube and bus seat materials, re-used leather checkbook covers, and are reminiscent of the iconic Chuck Taylor hightops.
Above and Below London’s line is probably one of the greenest shoes out there, and is supported by FirstGroup’s Climate Change Strategy. First donated the London bus seat materials to the project, and its partnership with TRiP (Transport Recycling in Partnership) will attempt to show the benefits of better environmental management by reusing the materials from public transport.

“We are delighted to be supporting TRiP in this imaginative and innovative initiative to find new and sustainable uses for materials that the transport industry has traditionally thrown away to landfill or incinerated. The support for TRiP is part of FirstGroup’s commitment to sustainability and part of its waste management programme which, combined with First’s industry leading Climate Change Strategy, will contribute to reducing our bus and rail operations’ impact on the environment.” - Sir Moir Lockhead, CEO FirstGroup
