I commute via bicycle nearly everyday. In the Boston area there are some bike lanes painted on the road. Now that is’s winter I find myself commuting in the dark, scary ordeal with Boston drivers. Lightlane could be your personal bike lane no matter where your ride.

Bike lanes have proven to be an effective method of protecting cyclists on congested roads. One key is that the lane establishes a well defined boundary beyond the envelope of the bicycle, providing a greater margin of safety between the car and the cyclist.

This laser projection creates a virtual bike lane around the cyclist onto the road. This brings attention not only to the cyclist but to the area around the rider that is essential for safe operating. Riding at night can be a dangerous undertaking and may deter many people from using the bike after dark. Since the creation of permanent bike lanes can be expensive ($5K-$50K per mile) and a political and bureaucratic endeavor for local governments, the LightLane could fill the gap in the meantime. It also could be great for less urban areas where bike lanes may never be installed.
