4. Cut the box down to size. With a 5×7 sized page I’d cut it to be about 10.5″ x 7.25″.
5. Trace the box onto the envelope and cut it out.
6. Now that everything’s cut down to size it’s time to bind it. There’s thousands of ways to bind your own notebooks, but I chose to drill some holes and bind it with twine.
I used two scrap boards to clamp it down and hold it still. Plus you can drill a little into the bottom board ensuring a clean hole without drilling your table.
Tip: stop drilling when you see wood coming up the drill grooves

Way to follow-through with this project, that was quite the effort! Taking steps to be green at home is worthwhile, but I like that you will have this when you are out-and-about and it should function as a conversation starter!
This is fantastic! I’ll be linking to this in The Daily DIY.
I think this is the greatest invention I’ve seen so far! What a great way to save money and the Earth! I’m more of a day-to-day person, so a monthly cardboard-miracle would be best! I’m also an artist, so maybe I can insert some blank pages for drawing… actually, I can make my own sketch book! Thanks for the amazing article!
@Alesha
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it! Once you make your sketch book, snap a couple of pics and send them in and we’ll post them on the site.
