The Aptera Takes You From 0-Green

From Aptera comes a new wave in electric and hybrid vehicles. Aptera is a new company that designed the Typ-1E from the get-go as an electric vehicle with long range capabilities. The three wheeled phenomenon will most likely be classified as a motorcycle. But, with its three-wheel base and fully enclosed cabin most will opine that this is more of a car. The hybrid version will also include a small combustion engine that will extend the cars range after the batteries have been thoroughly taxed. With intermittent combustion periods this wingless car purportedly will get close to 320mpg, albeit under a max speed of 70mph. When it’s time to put her away simply plug into any 110-volt outlet and let her refuel.

  1. That is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a long time. Any way we can reduce oil consumption the better. And to do it in this machine would give a whole new view on the world!

  2. I have mine preordered, can not wait!

  3. Wow! You’ve got to be kidding me. Really nice car there.
How much does it cost to have one?

  4. Price will be under $30,000

    Great looking and great concept.
    But there’s always a but.
But the front wheels are too large and unwieldy to park. If they were brought closer to the centre it would make things so much easier…

In the future Aptera make a green car that looks like a regular car.

Don’t try to go all out and crazy futuristic, everyone knows that sh@!# never goes further than concept.

Oh and $30,000 what a rip off. Do you know how many golf carts I could buy with that?!?!

Next time build a car, don’t try to reinvent the wheel.

Good idea, except for one thing. If you plug that car into an outlet, that energy is coming from a power plant where…GUESS WHAT! Fossil Fuels are being burned!

The only way to have this car be “green” is if one were to charge the car with a wind turbine or some other green generator.

    Green Noobs…

    @ Alan,

You are right, however, if we restrict ourselves to things that are only “Pure Green” then we’d never get anything done on the eco front. Yes this car indirectly uses fossil fuels, but I’d be willing to wager that it is far less than a car that is burning straight gasoline.

I think that this is great and I don’t mind that it looks like it’s from outer space, that makes it even cooler. Who wants to just blend into the crowd? I know that not everyone feels this way, and I can see how the outlandish design concept might make it hard for them to appeal to the the all the John Does out there. For the sake of getting more people into efficient cars I think it would be good to offer a more subdued design as well. Just my two cents!
