The Fine Art PET Bottle Redesign by Recycline
Posted on December 11, 2008 by Doug Gunzelmann in DIY, Home+Decor
The ability to look at the mundane plastic beverage bottle and see something more is a true skill. Ryter Design is a Swiss operation that has produced some truly unique PET bottle objects, most of which anybody can make themselves.
The PET purse is an object we have come across before. The premise is the same, bottle cut in half joined by a zipper, but the variations are numerous.
Recycline uses mostly 1 liter water bottles from a European based manufacturer in these shots but the premise can be applied to the typical 20oz water bottles and 2 liter soda bottles to change the size, shape, and volumes of your creation. The above magazine rack is lined with a single twisting strip of india rubber.
Joining the bottles can be accomplished by means of sewing (difficult, personally tried some creations with a sewing machine and by hand), rivets (quick, easy, look nice), and glue (easy way out).
My personal favorite is Recycline’s tribute to Sputnik, using the tops of four six bottles screwed together they created a change jar that is beautiful.
Although the Recycline site is all in German the pictures say it all.
