If you are going to be traveling a long way this Thanksgiving, consider carpooling.  Gas prices may be low, but we still need to make an effort to reduce our carbon emissions, and a great way to do that is keeping extra cars off the road.

I know my family’s holiday travels can be carbon heavy.  We all go down to Connecticut on every holiday which is about a 2.5 hour drive from NH.  I only live about a half hour from my parents but I will admit that most times we take separate cars because we are usually on slightly different schedules.  This year, with a little compromise we are going carpool down with one other family member taking two cars off the road.

If saving some carbons not good enough for you, Ben from Ecomodder, who commutes from school in NH to NJ offers 5 more reasons to carpool this holiday…

  1. Save on Gas & Tolls
  2. Have some company & good conversation
  3. New Music - he points out that “bringing new people into the car often introduces you to new music.” While this would probably happen if you are carpooling with college students, I doubt I am going to hear anything new listening to “Love Songs with Delilah” with my parents.
  4. If everyone that could carpool did it, there’d be much less traffic to fight.
  5. Giving a car a rest, reducing wear and tear.

If carpooling isn’t an option head over to Ecomodder for great ways for you to save some money and wear & tear on the earth during your commute.
