The Editt Eco-Tower in Singapore
Posted on October 16, 2008 by Matt Embrey in Architecture
T. R. Hamzah & Yeang International architectural firm’s Editt Tower design is a truly amazing design that is packed with sustainable amenities and mindful of it’s environmental impact on every level right down to site selection.
T. R. Hamzah & Yeang chose a site they consider to be a “Zero Culture” site, essentially a site with a devastated ecosystem that has little of its original top soil and vegetation remaining. The installation of this tower will in effect rehabilitate they ecological system by inserting new organics in balance with the surrounding structures.
To start the Editt Tower will be covered with green terraces which provide a vegetative area that is equivalent to one half of the gross usable area of the structure. The design began with the mapping the indigenous plant life within a 1 mile radius of the site. Then they identified species to be incorporated in the design that would not compete with the indigenous species and disrupt the natural ecosystem.
