I am a community organizer. As a green blogger I help spread information and ideas and facilitate conversation that will hopefully empower and inspire people to live more sustainable lives. In my real world job I work with people in the community to make their community safer and more productive place to live. In my spare time, I coach kids, beyond teaching them skills and training them physically, I help them develop skills that they will take beyond sport, that will help them to overcome adversity to achieve their goals.
I wrote this after I read this insightful article at Planet Save and traced the "I am a community Organizer" idea back to Slant Truth. Basically, in a reaction to Rudy Guiliani and Sarah Palin's comments mocking and belittling Community Organizers and community service in general, Kevin from Slant Truth is calling for progressive bloggers to blog about their rolls as a community organizer and honor the work community organizers do.
I have to admit, I don't really consider myself a community organizer in the trues sense of the title. I know people that do work as community organizers in the same capacity that Obama did, and I have a tremendous amount of respect and gratitude for the noble work they do. Anyway, join the link love and blog about what you do as a community organizer, or about how important their jobs are to our country. If you don't have a blog, leave a comment with your thoughts and experiences.
