City Bag Trade: Raincoats Recycled Into Bags
Posted on August 24, 2008 by Matt Embrey in Clothes+Accessories, DIY
How do you combine fashion, practicality, and sustainability into one product? Kendra Stanley’s answers this by making old raincoats into bags! Her company is called City Bag Trade, and if you want to get your hands on one of her rain coat carry crafts you can buy one, you can send a jacket in trade or you can make your own from a downloadable pattern. An excellent example of re-using and re-purposing, Kendra aims to raise awareness about the use and waste of common grocery bags and encourage people to use a sustainable substitute offering them a fashionable bag with a personal touch.
I really love this idea. Besides looking cool and being sustainable, depending on the jacket you use, these bags will have pockets and be water resistant. Plus, I imagine you could fold the bag up and zip it into it’s own pocket, making it like a Flip & Tumble.
