This house with a retractable room was built to blend into the landscape of this island nature preserve. Due to perseveration regulations, no new structures can be built on the island. Also, any modifications to existing structures cannot increase the footprint of the structure. With that in mind the 19th century shack pictured below was transformed into this organic expandable home. In the winter it is nestled up like a cocoon, but in the summer they unfurl it’s extension. These are so great! I want to live in the one in Cavallo, it’s so beautiful. Mediterranean style is definitely one of the most desirable - where’s the realtor for these places?.

I’m pretty sure the top photo is actually an art installation from New Harmony, Indiana. Unfortunately, it burned to the ground about a year or two ago. I don’t have the artist’s name, but I could get for you if you wish.
