Recycled Paper Artwork by Liz Grotyohann

These amazing paper creations from Liz Grotyohann are made from reclaimed paper products. Her site, Pica Pica is named for “Pica” a unit of measure in printing and typography, and the Pica Pica:
Black-billed magpie, latin name.
(See also magpie: Someone who collects things cast off by others)
Fittingly Grotyohann creates her beautiful designs from things no longer being used by others.
The map bowls are made from used paper shopping bags which she turns to pulp and forms into a bowl using paper casting techniques. She then lines them with an old map and seals it with a high gloss resign. They are unique, durable and lightweight, however, they are not water tight so its best to use them for decoration and not to eat out of.
Her Paper Vases are made from old magazine pages. She starts with the first page of the magazine and goes page by page layering the walls of the bowl. This approach insures a unique and random blend of color and type. Next she seals them with resin tests them with standing water to ensure they are water tight.
All of her items can be purchased in her Etsy store.

Super cool! I love that map bowl. I think I’ve seen that before in a store.
