Did you know that you can make durable fabric from used, fused plastic grocery bags?
Obviously, the greenest thing to do is skip that single-use plastic all together, but somehow plastic bags always seem to make their way into my life no matter how hard I try. Rather than send them to the landfill or the bin, you can give that flimsy plastic a new life with just a few simple tools.
I'm loving this fall-themed decor project from Aunt Peaches! She uses fused plastic bags to make a decorative leaf garland that looks stunning hanging in a window. All you need to make your own are:
- plastic bags
- latex paint
- an iron
- parchment paper
- tin foil
- a sewing machine or a needle and thread
One word of caution: heating plastic does cause it to off-gas some nasty fumes, so it's best to do this project by a wide-open window our outside. Ready to get fusing? You can get the tutorial here!
