What if you could divert plastic from the landfill, support organic farmers, and spread the word about plastic pollution all at the same time? The folks at Project Recycling are looking to help you do just that.
There are a couple of things that make Project Recycling's recycled t-shirts stand out from other polyester made from recycled plastic:
1. The shirts are a 50/50 blend of recycled PET plastic and organic cotton. Conventional cotton is bad news from a social and environmental standpoint, and when you choose organic cotton you're saying no to genetically modified cotton and all the problems that come with it. It takes about three 20 ounce water bottles to make one of these tees.
2. Project Recycling is more than a clothing manufacturer. They are also a post-industrial plastic recycling company. They use the proceeds from their t-shirt sales to fund recycling programs across the U.S.
The folks at Project Recycling were kind enough to send me one of their shirts to try out. I'm kind of a small gal, and the shirts only come in men's sizes, so I got one for my husband. He usually wears a small in American Apparel shirts, and this one fit him nicely.
The fabric is soft, though the shirt was a little bit warm for playing out back with our dog in 97 degree weather. When fall rolls in, it's going to be just right for hanging out in the backyard and the park!
