soda can lanterns

How lovely are these sweet, upcycled tin lanterns made from reclaimed soda cans? When I first spotted the project over at Dollar Store Crafts, I knew I had to pin it to the Green Upgrader Pinterest board, but it was too adorable not to share with you guys here on the site, too. The project originally came from The Star Online, and you can check it out in full there, but here's the quick and dirty version:

  1. Drink soda.
  2. Wash can.
  3. Fill can with water and freeze.
  4. Cut vertical slices into can with box cutter (do not cut fingers!).
  5. Thaw can.
  6. Gently smoosh can.
  7. Cut out and remove 2 strips, so you can get that tealight in there.

There are a couple of great illustrations over at The Star Online where you can see exactly what to do, and she gives you a couple of options on how you can make your soda can lantern.

Have you done any cool soda can crafts lately? Tell us all about them in the comments!
