We own two cats, which means my life is sometimes just covered in cat fur. Jeweler Laura Davis faced a similar problem and decided to turn that pesky shed fur into art!
Since cat hair is organic material, it breaks down into methane in landfills, just like food waste and biodegradable plastics do. Not a jeweler? You can also compost your cat's hair, if felting it into beads isn't your thing.
Rather than toss that hair into the trash, Davis creates unique pieces of jewelry out of felted cat hair. She says:
My interest is in the transformation of simple, plain components into beautiful objects. The end results are distinctive one-of-a-kind personal adornments with wonderful tactile qualities and visual interest.
You can find Davis' cat hair jewelry along with her other work (and a photo of her sweet kitty!) over at her Etsy shop.
