Tin cans make for great storage, and with some crafty love they can be cute to boot!
How adorable are these painted cans from This Home Sweet Home? What a cute way to divert some waste from the landfill and boost your crafty storage at the same time.
This isn't the only cool tin can storage idea I've run across this week. The folks at CRAFT shared an awesome storage board made from reclaimed cans over at HGTV, and I thought it was a great way to keep some waste out of the landfill and solve a common craft room storage problem all at once!
They mounted a cookie sheet to the wall to create a backing, and I'm sure you could score one at your local thrift store to make this an almost totally upcycled project! It might be fun to paint the cans (like the organizers above) or the cookie sheet to give this project some extra pop. I also love that they labeled each can for maximum organization, and if you painted the cans you could use stencils to create your labels. How cute would that be?
To turn your cans into magnetic storage containers, just use some strong glue like e6000 to attach magnets to the back. Rare Earth makes some really good, strong magnets that would work perfectly for this project.
As they pointed out at CRAFT, if you do decide to make this project, just make sure you use a safety can opener, so you're not left with sharp edges. You don't want to create a danger organizer! You can check out the finished project over at HGTV!
Have you seen any nifty tin can organizers? I'd love to hear more ideas in the comments!
