The shine is probably because they’re using organic cotton sateen. From what I understand, the sateen is produced by treating the cotton fibers with lye that’s neutralized with an acid bath (lye is basic, which is why it’s used in soap-making). Safety-wise, I don’t think it’s as healthy as untreated organic cotton, but it’s probably not something to worry too much about. If anyone has more knowledge/info, though, I’d love to hear from you!

Hi Becky, I picked up a set of these sheets (brown) at Target too due to the fact that they’re organic and relatively inexpensive. One thing I noticed about them though is the fact that the sheets and the pillowcase are very smooth and shiny, almost silk-like rather than cottony (to me). Granted I’m not really that knowledgeable about fabrics at all, but I thought this did seem a bit odd. Do you think this is anything to worry about as far as the sheets truly being 100% organic cotton and of all natural materials / dyes / what have you, and have any idea why the sheets might be so smooth / silky?

I bought these sheets last summer for my son (for his dorm) and for me. I love them! Very inexpensive.

But I wonder about the colors. I couldn’t find out how they colored them. Do you know?
