Big fan of Space Odyssey:2001? Well here is an eco-friendly version of the deranged and psychotic HAL. Named Wattson, this is an monitoring device that once installed in your home displays how much electricity you are consuming. Using both a digital read out and illuminating color display Wattson is like your personal Al Gore, keeping tabs on your consumption. It connects to the computer to give you real time monitoring, and chronological view of your use.  With the capability of storing weeks worth of consuming data you can track your habits and tailor your routine to be more Green.  Wattson works by attaching a sensor to your meter and fusebox, then a wireless transmitter communicates the information to the display that can be mounted anywhere you like within the home. Unlike HAL, Wattson won’t try to kill you if the TV stays on too long or you need to blow dry your hair.

Here is a simulation of what could happen if WATTSON turned into HAL:

Samantha: Open the bathroom doors, WATTSON.
WATTSON: I’m sorry Samantha, I’m afraid I can’t do that.  The environment is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
Samantha: I don’t know what you’re talking about, WATTSON?
WATTSON: I know you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I’m afraid that’s something I cannot allow to happen.
Samantha: Where the hell’d you get that idea, WATTSON?
WATTSON: Look Samantha, I can see you’re really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over

Probably wont happen though…right?
