TerraCycle & OfficeMax: Eco-Friendly Office Products

TerraCycle

TerraCycle has partnered up with OfficeMax to sell a line of eco-friendly office products.  To start they are going to be selling recycled pencil cases, binders and trash cans but plan to roll out more soon.  The Pencil cases are my favorite.  TerraCycle runs the Drink Pouch Brigade, where schools collect these traditionally un-recyclable pouches and send them to TerraCycle.  TerraCycle pays them $0.02 per pouch then turns them into the pencil pouches among other products.  This is a great way for schools to raise money and we love products that are conspicuously made from recycled materials.  They are eco-chic, plus it raises awareness for recycling and upcycling.

The Eco Binder is a regular 3 ring binder that is made from 100% recycled paper and 90% recycled steel.  When you are done with the binder and no longer need it you can send it back to TerraCycle to be re-purposed.  The trash cans/ recycling bins cans are made from 100% e-waste (such as crushed computers and fax machines) that would otherwise have ended up in a landfill.

  1. Many individual factories, and many are taking it upon themselves to market their own products to the public, as opposed to necessarily going through big processors, although, obviously, the bulk of the furniture still is dealt with that way.

I bought the Tote Bag made from recycled juice drink pouches along with the pencil case. So affordable and high quality. Useful things made from trash. There’s a word for that now. It’s called upcycling. Call it what you want, as long as more people suport that type of forward thinking!!!
