Confession time: My husband and I are addicted to Earth Fare. We don't have any here in Atlanta, so when we travel to neighboring states, it's hard to resist visiting for some great food and pick up some of our favorite treats, like their vegan chicken salad.
When we were up in Charleston not too long ago, we found ourselves at the Earth Fare there with more groceries than we could fit in the bag I keep on me. We were deciding if we should pick up a new bag or just pile things into the car when the cashier asked if I'd like a bag or a box.
Rather than breaking down their boxes for recycling, this store stashes their empties by the register so folks can reuse them to take home their groceries instead of taking a single use bag!
While the answer to the Paper or Plastic question is up for debate, reused or reusable is always better than virgin materials, right? This policy is a win all around: it's less work for the store, since they don't have to break down all of those boxes, and customers get to take their purchases home in a guilt-free package.
Sometimes, the simplest solution is also the best one.
