Ahh that makes sense. Possibly a good idea to put items at the front of the shelves too. They’d slow down the air circulation when you open the door keeping already-cold air behind them.

They take more energy to cool initially, but they retain their temperature better than the air when you open the door. You don’t need a packed fridge, but an empty one is less efficient.

What’s the reason behind the pitchers of water? Cooling those down to inside fridge temperature is going to take a lot more effort than cooling their air they displace.
