Company offers unique solution for shoes that can be repaired rather than replaced
Once upon a time, when people wore out the soles of their shoes they would take them to the local cobbler to have them resoled. However, times have changed. These days, both because shoes are made with lighter, more flexible materials, and because most shoes are mass produced for very cheaply, shoes start falling all at the same time, making resoling shoes both difficult and foolhardy.
But there are still some shoe companies out there that make high quality uppers that outlast the sole. And I'm guessing some readers of this blog have a few pairs of old Birkenstocks kicking around in their closets that need some new soles. It is those shoes that Resole America wants to fix for you, and you only have to go as far as your mailbox to get it done.
Resole America was founded with two goals in mind: To resole shoes and boots remarkably well, and to do so quickly and conveniently. If they're returning resoled shoes in 8-10 days, they are definitely doing the latter. Prices range depending on the shoe and the amount of work required to resole them. But on the new Resole America blog our friend and green-blogging colleague, Shea Gunther, is giving away a resole per week just for leaving a comment (act fast, because this contest will not last long).
Sure, not every shoe in your closet is constructed with heirloom design principles in mind, but for those shoes that are designed to be repaired rather than replaced, it is not only sensible to have them resoled, the future of cobbling may depend on it.
